Reporting to the Director of Strategic Operations the post holder is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the Finance Department and the provision of financial services to the organisation.
Management and Governance
1. To be responsible for the leadership, management and development of staff in the finance function, ensuring that staff are appropriately supported and have the necessary tools, skills and knowledge to meet departmental and organisational objectives.
2. To ensure that appropriate processes are in place to ensure the long-term financial viability, advising Managers and other staff on the financial consequences of proposed actions.
3. To produce and present reports to the Finance and Audit Committee, ensuring that trustees receive accurate and up-to-date information and to advise trustees on all financial matters.
4. To ensure the finance department meets the needs of the organisation through constant improvement of the services it offers and that it adjusts to meet any new demands.
5. To ensure that financial policies and procedures are appropriate for the organisation and that the use of these is monitored.
6. To ensure that appropriate risk management techniques and financial controls are embedded throughout.
Financial Accounting
1. To ensure that proper books of accounts are maintained in line with recognised accounting standards.
2. To ensure that the IDS has appropriate systems in place for all aspects of treasury management and that these are followed.
3. To be responsible for the production of annual statutory accounts, liaising with the auditors as necessary.
Management Accounting & Systems
1. To be responsible for the development and maintenance of management information systems, ensuring that staff and trustees receive the financial analysis and information they require.
2. To be responsible for the co-ordination and management of the annual budget and forecast processes and to advise on resource allocation.
3. To play an active role in the financial planning of the organisation.
4. Where appropriate to negotiate contracts and project budgets with funders and other parties and to approve all contracts. 5. To be responsible for the departmental budget.
6. To have overall responsibility for the development of accounting software and other internal systems in line with operational needs.
Who we're looking for
You will have aCCAB recognised accountancy qualification.
You will have a strong knowledge of:-
• Financial reporting requirements of the SORP (Charities)
• Accounting and financial reporting systems
Skills:-
• The ability to manage a complex work programme and manage competing demands and priorities.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including high quality writing skills
• Using complex accounting software and advanced spreadsheet skills (Excel).
• High levels of self motivation
• The ability to respond effectively to quickly changing circumstances and priorities
• Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, with the ability to deal effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and levels of seniority
• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work deadlines and to operate as part of a team, manage through a team or on own initiative as occasion demands
• Excellent analytical and presentational skills.

Experience:-
• Several years experience of working in a finance team.
• Considerable experience of managing staff
• Producing statutory accounts and annual reports.
• Working with funders
• Experience of working under pressure in order to meet tight deadlines.
