As the Head of Finance you will play a central role within the finance team, required to work closely with the senior management, in particular the European Finance Director, ensuring that all UK financial systems and processes are effective. The successful candidate will also be required to manage an existing finance team and a small IT team. Unpinning all this, the successful candidate must understand the business; its structure, its products, the market it operates in, its major competitors and its key drivers. As a result, they will be required to interact with a wide variety of individuals. Commercial awareness is thus essential. Reporting directly into the European Finance Director the main responsibilities will include:
• Deputising on site for the European FD and implementing business improvement initiatives and growth strategies.
• Help oversee the financial planning and forecasting processes.
• Leading the UK finance team in day-to-day finance matters including process & policy development, corporate governance and ad-hoc analytical work.
• Ensuring internal financial controls are in place and adhered to and that finance systems allow efficient reporting under UKGAAP.
• Help identify and implement profitability and cost improvements.
• Staff management - to help lead, manage and develop the finance team.
• Significant ad-hoc financial/commercial project work supporting the decision-making process.
• Develop business information reporting tools & assist management in the resolution of issues highlighted.
• You will have responsibility for Financial Accounting, Business Control (Management Accounting), Supply Chain and IT.
Who we're looking for
The successful candidate will be a top tier qualified accountant with a strong academic pedigree. Both technically strong and commercially astute, applicants will need to be equally comfortable liaising with senior management and key external intermediaries. A strong work ethic and the desire to add-value are key requirements for this position.
• It is imperative that the European FD, senior managers, the finance team and clients alike can trust this individual, so attention to detail, accuracy and strength of personality are essential.
• A strong eye for detail and the ability to consistently meet tight deadlines are critical.
• Given the autonomous nature of the role, self-belief and confidence in ones own ability are essential.
• Comfortable working with senior management as a business partner, providing a link between UK and Europe as well as between finance and non-finance.
• A strong work ethic and a personality that sides on continuous improvement and innovation.
• The ability to relate to the wider office environment, coupled with the gravitas to be able to manage a variety of key relationships.
• Business acumen, with the stature and professional experience to take a lead role in a multinational company.
