Account Manager

FMCG

South East

Permanent

Updated June 15, 2008

As an Account Manager, you will be responsible for managing one of the UK's leading grocery multiple accounts, across all categories. The key deliverable will be to secure listings in retailers and grow our sales in the four core categories. However, there will be additional responsibilities, for example, sitting on project teams for other categories along with licensee sales teams to deliver growth in these areas.

Who we're looking for
The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter. This is essential since Duchy are a small team, and there isn't a lot of time for hand-holding. You will be capable of hitting the ground running in an environment where processes are ready to be built as opposed to followed. There will, of course,be inductions, sales meetings and one-to-ones, but there isn't the time for daily coaching. Anyone who needs a rigid structure to follow will not succeed here. Someone who is flexible and able to help create best practice will do well. Not only will you be managing a major grocery account, but you will have the opportunity toget involved in category management, new product development and project work.
An understanding and a passion for quality food is essential. This combined with a knowledge of organic/sustainable issues would be even better. Key characteristics that Duchy look for when recruiting include enthusiasm, challenge, intelligence, a strong work ethic, positivity, drive and being a team player. If you fit all of these, then you will fit very well into the team. Sharing knowledge is crucial, so you will be flexible in your working schedule to spend 2-3 days per week at the head office in Richmond. In order to achieve this, candidates will be based within the south east.

About our client
Duchy Originals is a growing business providing premium quality organic and free range food products. It was founded in 1990 by HRH The Prince of Wales and the entire portfolio reflects his philosophy of farming and the environment. Along with the increase in turnover has come an increase in its profits, all of which are donated to The Prince of Wales's Charitable Foundation. The business culture combines the ethical nature of a charity, the unreserved quest for quality of a premium product manufacturer and the commercial determination of a growing FMCG business.
In February 2008, Duchy Originals completed a large-scale strategy project with Marakon Associates, which identified a growth opportunity that will increase the brand's turnover four-fold during the next 5 years to £200M.
By focusing on specific product categories (bakery, jams/preserves, condiments and oils) and returning the selling of the remaining categories to the licensees, re-engineering weights and price points and repositioning and marketing the brand, over the next 5 years, Duchy Originals will re-establish itself as the UK's No.1 organic/sustainable food brand.
