• Case manage, and remain the principal point of contact for, any litigation involving the organisation, obtaining external legal advice from solicitors/counsel where appropriate.
• At a point to be agreed with the Director of Integrity Services and Licensing, case manage all Integrity investigations through to their conclusion.
• Finalise witness statements and other documentation in relation to any Inquiry or other litigation.
• Ensure all parties are aware of relevant litigation precedents.
• Report regularly to the Director of Finance and Corporate Services on progress of legal cases.
• Where necessary, attend court appearances and provide instructions to solicitors/counsel.
• Assist other departments with miscellaneous correspondence where legal input is required.
• Provide legal advice to the Executive Directors and other departments, researching and summarising appropriately, where required.
• In conjunction with the Director of Finance and Corporate Services evaluate and control the legal spend of the organisation, making cost reductions where possible.
• Ensure Press Office is fully informed of all Inquiries and external litigation involving the organisation.
• Manage and develop the legal team, to deliver the Authority's objectives within budget; formulate team and individual goals consistent with the Authority's objectives and monitor achievement, ensuring individuals perform to their full potential through continuous professional development.
Who we're looking for
• Demonstrable experience in litigation management within tight financial budgets.
• Previous commercial private practice experience advantageous.
• Clear ability to lead, motivate and develop professional teams to achieve organisational objectives.
• Evidence of managing and implementing change.
• Proven ability as an effective communicator, both written and oral, coupled with excellent attention to detail with a meticulous approach.
• First class analytical and problem solving skills. With an ability to identify root cause of problems and put forward appropriate solutions in a confident and professional manner.
• Ability to multi-task and manage several projects at various stages whilst remaining calm and professional.
