Working directly for the Sales & Marketing Director, the Technical Manager is responsible for the Applications team, consisting of six specialists ( pre sales applications support, application development) holding full accountability for the department budget. The applications engineering team provides comprehensive pre-sales technical support (visits, trials and sample evaluation) to the global sales team for customers across diverse sectors including the tobacco, food and packaging industries. Trouble shooting in conjunction with the Customer Care group and Production support are also integral responsibilities. The development group takes functional responsibility for delivering on longer term technical projects based upon identified market need for new measurements.
Applications is a core competence of NDC and this high profile, senior role within the company, requires a person with a strong presence, vision and a pro-active stance towards business development as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks of short and long term nature. Liaising with sales, marketing and development teams, the Technical Manager will be be the driving force in project managing new application measurement solutions , from pre-sales market investigation through to production proving.
The person will require strong interactive skills with customers and the ability to deliver both technical papers and commercially focused technical presentations to groups of people at all levels establishing a presence with customers and at relevant industry conferences and seminars.
The job requires international travel, up to 40% of the time, some of extended duration supporting our American and Far East operations.
Who we're looking for
The successful individual will require the following attributes:
• A chemistry/ chemical qualification ideally to a PhD level.
• Proven Management of a technical function and ability to work to timescales in a high pressure environment.
• Ability to manage/ undertake multiple technical projects and short term support requests and to deliver to agreed timescales.
• Highly developed commercial and market awareness.
• Strong knowledge of spectroscopy/ instrumentation (preferable).
• X-Ray absorption and fluorescence experience (an advantage).
