Capital Acountant

• Guide and supportthe companyto achieve year-on-year financial balance.

• Provide the financial advice and guidance required for effective corporate management, strategic and operational decision-making in both the short and medium term.

• Prepare and account for the information underpinningthe business'spublic accountability for stewardship of funds.

• Provide advice and information to secure effective planning and delivery of investments in service improvement and organisational change.

• Provide monthly Capital expenditure and ad hoc reports as required, reclaiming funding from external bodies where appropriate.

• Provide monthly and ad hoc cash flow projections in relation to Capital expenditure.

• Operate as a liaison between the Capital Review Group and Project Officers as part of the project assurance process to ensure the completion of the Capital programme on time and within budget.

• Calculate Capital charges - forecasts and actual - ensuring all appropriate ledger entries are completed.

• Liaise with external advisors in relation to annual valuation exercises, discussing outcomes and variances and updating Divisional management throughout the process.

• Manage links with internal technical teams for equipment inventory and maintenance purposes, and the asset-tagging process.

• Provide training and support to Financial and non-Financial Managers on Capital Accounting issues.

• Advisory role on Capital accounting policies and best practice for staff.

Who we're looking for
• A good knowledge and understanding of both Capital and Financial accounting.

• Monitoring developments in current accounting standards and guidance, providing Divisional management with updates regarding their impact, and putting in place processes to ensure compliance.

• Working accurately under time pressures.

• Effectively managing volumes of data.

• The effective communication of Capital issues to non-Finance staff.

• Working with staff from different disciplines, at all levels, within a very complex environment across a number of sites.

• The complexity and range of tasks undertaken.
• A professional qualification.

• A comprehensive knowledge of current legislation and guidance relating to Fixed Assets and Capital.

• A comprehensive knowledge of current VAT legislation.

• Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word.

• Good communicator who interacts well with all levels and types of staff (financial and non-financial).

• High level of interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work under time pressure.

• A systematic approach to work.

• Flexible, team-spirited attitude to work.
