Head of Purchasing

An opportunity has arisen to join a leader in the not for profit construction arena based in the Newcastle area.
You will identify opportunities to improve the way the organisation procures goods and services using best practice in terms of tendering, contract negotiation and supplier consolidation.
The main tasks of the role are:
• To review and improve where necessary the organisation's procurement strategy
• To implement strategic and tactical supply chain management to improve quality and value
• To develop and implement standard procurement procedures and processes to maximise efficiency and reduce duplication.
• To rationalise suppliers, where necessary, to achieve long term supplier relationships and economies of scale.
• To help define the purchasing function within the organisation and across the local area, by establishing strategic alliances and long term partnering agreements
• To raise the profile of Purchasing as a professional discipline within the organisation with the ability to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs

Who we're looking for
An excellent communicator you should have strong influencing and problem solving skills and the ability to build collaborative partnerships. Ideally you will be CIPS qualified with strong commercial awareness. The successful individual will be motivated by the challenge of bringing best practice into a public sector environment. A construction background is preferable but not a pre requisite.

In addition you will have extensive background in:
• Negotiating contracts and selecting suppliers .• Supplier/product rationalisation.• Supplier development • Risk Management related to Procurement •
