• To assist Finance Manager in reviewing Area business reports and analysis and proactively identifying opportunities for cost reduction and/or revenue enhancement and business performance improvement.
• To deputise for the Area Finance Manager in their absence.
• Develop a close working partnership with the FM and be able to deputise for them in their absence.
• Develop effective relationships with operational business management.
• Gain a clear and detailed understanding of the Area business operations.
• Use analytical skills to identify proactive opportunities for cost reduction and/or revenue enhancement and performance improvement.
• With FM support, recommend management action to the business to realise these opportunities.
• Work with the Area MA to negotiate standard Service Level Agreements with the business (e.g. Sort At Source status reports).
• Assist Senior MA Operations/Services to obtain compliance with standard practice and procedure in the business.
• Gain an understanding of management accounting process for the business at month end.
• Use that knowledge to support the MA/FM in reviewing and producing the month end reports and analysis, including commentary.
• With the FM, present monthly management accounts, forecasts, budgets and analyses to the business.
• Assist FM with investment appraisals, capital projects, mergers & acquisitions etc.
• Undertake requests for ad hoc business analysis.
• Assist in the definition and adoption of best accounting practice.
• Ensure the business understands and fulfils its responsibilities to achieve key timetables and deadlines (e.g. Quality Close/Sort At Source).
• Ensure the business understands and complies with accounting policies & regulations.
• Schedule & attend a regular pattern of interactions with the business to ensure business knowledge and awareness is current and effective.
• Co-ordination of Aggregate Levy analysis and return for the Area.
• Production of end of year Restoration and Decommissioning reconciliations.
• Support FM in Competition Law/Compliance tasks.
Who we're looking for
The successful candidate should have:-
• Understanding of end-to-end management accounting process, preferably in a related & relevant business context.
• Strong accounting technical knowledge & regulatory/compliance awareness.
• Analytical capability.
• Ability to build & maintain models in MS-Excel.
Ideally the successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of:-
• Relationship management.
• Working to exacting deadlines & ability to handle pressure.
• Planning & prioritisation of workload HIGHLY DESIRABLE.
• Holder of formal accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA).
• Good working knowledge of Tarmac, its products & market places.
• Strong SAP/BW knowledge.
About our client
A multi-site UK organisation with a core business in quarries, aggregate, asphalt and concrete processing plants together with a number of joint ventures (JVs). Currently the business is organised into 7 geographic Areas. Management Accounts provides a centralised service to these Areas and to the finance function of the hold company.
Based in Shared Service Centre each Area has a dedicated Management Accountant. Teams of Assistants serve 2 or 3 Areas (in a 'cluster') providing reporting and query resolution services to the plants and reporting entities within the Areas. A Team Co-coordinator leads each team. Based in the areas, each area has a Finance Manager, who reports to the AP CFO.
