Responsible for the co-ordination of effective corporate and personal tax compliance, planning and risk management around international assignments.
Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
• Providing advice to LTM relationship managers, line managers and ERS specialists on tax efficient assignment planning. This includes advice on the most suitable package, preparing cost comparisons and looking at whether expatriate tax concessions in host locations can be used to generate savings.
• Responsibility for managing the monthly tax equalisation accruals to ensure proper accounting for expatriate tax costs, including managing the payables and receivables process, reviewing the tax calculations and liaising with finance and the onsite resource to effect the monthly postings to P&L. Provide ad hoc support to the finance teams and to ERS globally in respect of the reconciliation of the balance sheet accrual accounts and other matters.
• Managing domestic and International Social Security and Tax compliance for the EMEA expatriate population including: accurate and timely reporting and withholding e.g. transfer of payrolls to operate correct withholdings, ensure correct E101 and certificate of coverage treatment, review of P11D records, coordinating payment and correct reporting of home and host tax payments and reviewing.
• Tax Equalisation Process - coordination of payment and collection process and maintenance of control lists and access database
• Management of KPMG onsite tax resource
• Responsibility for monitoring KPMG service levels in EMEA and for ensuring that tax audits and enquiries are progressed efficiently towards resolution.
• Assisting with the management of the year end US compensation reporting (W-2) process.
• Provide Tax support to Global ERS team in respect of technology implementations e.g. Link Enterprise.
• Liaising with external advisers to obtain technical guidance when required.
• Liaising with ML Corporate Tax Department in London and globally.
Who we're looking for
Essential
• Solid experience in expatriate tax at ideally either a 'Big 4' professional tax firm or an in-house function of a financial institution. Strong technical skills.
• Graduate calibre (or equivalent) and minimum ATT qualified.
• Strong communication skills, in particular the ability to explain complicated technical tax ideas and concepts and to tailor this to all levels of audience.
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to deliver clear, concise information.
• Excellent organisational skills
• Ability to work in a high pressure and high activity environment with a focus on excellent client service.
• Confidence in own judgement and ability to understand impact to the business as a whole
