Strategic Purchasing Manager

Temp ⁄ £40,000 - £55,000 plus package

The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for:
• Management of the purchasing function:
• Sourcing and selection of suppliers,
• Supplier performance monitoring, including DPM & PPM,
• Management of stock holding and availability,
• Supporting effective maintenance of equipment,
• Management and development of the Purchasing staff
• Integration of the Purchasing function into the wider organisation

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Management or involvement with all the sourcing activities of the Group.
• Selection and cultivation of new suppliers.
• Ensuring best value sourcing of new purchases, including contract negotiation.
• Maintain and monitor supplier performance measurement criteria.
• Regular review and audit of suppliers in accordance withGroup requirements
• Management and monitoring of cost reduction activities for process improvements, materials and other supply:
• Instigation of 'open book' policies with key suppliers
• Instigation of annual cost down initiatives with key suppliers
• Support for Maintenance and Engineering activities
• Involvement with NPI projects at an early stage:
• Ensure effective equipment sourcing and supplier selection.
•Responsible capital expenditure budget
• Assist with the development of internal systems and procedures, with respect to MRP, stock control and forecasting.
• Develop and report on key performance data for purchasing activities within the organisation
• Effective management of working capital.
• Carry out routine appraisals of staff
• Identification of training and development needs
• Provision of leadership and direction
• Setting of departmental plans and objectives
• Monitoring of cost savings

Who we're looking for
Qualifications: CIPS qualified preferred

Skills: Strategic thinking individual. Excellent Communication, incorporating influencing and coaching skills
Ability to make group presentations
IT literate with experience of spreadsheet and word-processing packages Accuracy, Numerate & Literate
Demonstrates strong attention to detail
Good organization and time management
Ability to work under pressure an to deadlines
Highly confidential

Experience:
Automotive experience a must
Experience of supplier development procedures, with particular emphasis on annual cost down initiatives.
Experience of Quality Systems maintenance, with particular emphasis on Supplier Performance monitoring.
