If you are looking for a role where you can exercise your professional judgement across a sizeable Division and be the key to its financial health this is for you. You will be supporting management of a budget circa £13-15m
You will take a lead in ensuring that rigorous financial control is maintained within the division through robust budget setting; controls and effective relationships.

This role is not an average run o' the mill accounting role. United Response provides services which are crucial to the lives of the people they support. The quality and availability of these services depend on both your ability to deliver great financial management and also to do effective negotiation with funders.

Your responsibilities will include amongst others:

• Work with development managers to prepare budgets for tenders and proposed new services ensuring their financial viability

•Take responsibility for budgets and forecasts of existing services and offices within the division, building effective relationships with Operational Managers and ensuring they have the skills and understanding to exercise effective budgetary control

• Develop and sustain effective relationships at a senior level with funders, taking responsibility for negotiating annual budget agreements and other funding as required.

• Provide the central finance team with detailed billing instructions, so that invoicing can be completed, and assist with the checking of income variances from budget at month end.

• Carry out detailed analysis of the income and expenditure accounts for the division on a monthly basis, identifying significant trends and variances from budget and ensuring these are understood by the relevant budget holders. This will involve working with managers one-to-one or leading small group discussions.

•Contribute to wider financial issues within the organisation through attendance at national finance meetings and participation in project groups.

Who we're looking for
The successful candidate will be a self-motivated experienced budget manager who enjoys using liaison and negotiation skills with people of varied levels and professions; who thrives on responsibility and is looking for job satisfaction.

You will have the following skills or attributes:
• Excellent ability in the use of Excel spreadsheets
• Able to manage and prioritise own workload
• Accustomed to managing a large volume of work to a tight deadline
• Superb interpersonal skills
• Thorough knowledge of accounting; in-depth budgeting and management; investigative and analysis skills
• Prepared to travel within the division frequently and to London occasionally.
• Comfortable having contact with fellow finance colleagues on the whole remotely whilst working side by side with non-finance colleagues
• A supportive member of a team and a desire to strive for professional excellence
• Accountants who are qualified / part-qualified / qualified by experience are welcome to apply
