Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity raises money to support the pioneering research and treatment of children from all over the world who are referred to the hospital. As an international centre of excellence, Great Ormond Street Hospital is often the last hope for many critically ill children and their families. Working with the UCL Institute of Child Health, the hospital has embarked upon an ambitious capital redevelopment plan which will provide radical new solutions for the medical treatment of sick children and help keep the hospital at the forefront of international paediatric medicine.
After a recent restructure a new senior management position has been created to take responsibility for creating an effective and joined up operations function. The Head of Operations will make an important leadership contribution to the charity's overall strategy and long term success.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, Administration and IT, main responsibilities will include:
• Developing and implementing critical changes to the way the charity communicates with its supporters and creating a strong customer service culture.
• Providing leadership to Supporter Services, Database Management and Administration building an efficient, cohesive operations function to support the fundraising teams - currently 15 staff.
• Working with the Head of Technology to develop an IT strategy and improve the use of available technologies by ensuring the most appropriate and consistent use of core systems and complementary software.
• Developing and improving internal procedures and processes to ensure that the charity works in the most cost effective manner.
• Managing supplier relationships and regularly reviewing and updating Service Level Agreements.
Who we're looking for
Applications are encouraged from those with proven strategic expertise in the field of customer relationship management (CRM) and business process management (BPM).
In addition, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
• An ability to build strong and effective relationships at all levels and encourage cross-department collaboration.
• Strong communication and presentation skills and the capacity to influence decisions at a senior level.
• Proven experience in making commercially sound investment decisions, particularly in the utilisation of technology and when dealing with external suppliers.
• A track record of success in leading projects (using preferred methodologies such as Prince 2) and change management.
• A strong team manager and motivator.
• Expertise in working on strategic activities and making important organisation wide decisions.
About our client
The redevelopment of Great Ormond Street Hospital is the greatest logistical and financial challenge of the Trust's history.
Phase 1 of the redevelopment is now complete. It cost £96 million and was fully funded through charitable donations. Phase 2 of the redevelopment is taking place over a seven-year period and it is expected to cost £321 million to complete. In addition the charity is seeking to help support pioneering medical research, both at the hospital and its research partner the UCL Institute of Child Health, to develop new treatments and cures.
The fundraising challenge must be met by a strong and robust fundraising proposition delivered by highly energetic and innovative fundraisers, who in turn need a committed supporter services and professional infrastructure to support them.
