VAT Team Leader

You will be responsible for:

• The accountability and responsibility for the VAT compliance - Scope being 77 VAT returns wherefrom 45 consolidate into 2 returns, not only being UK but also including a European dimension / 18 Intra-stat/Extra-stat and EC sales listings

• Leadership and management on all aspects, of the VAT CoE team, currently comprised of 8 staff

• Deputize for the FA&PR Process lead when required / appropriate

• Maintaining and building strong working relationships with Indirect TAX, relevant Country TAX managers, co located FC&A teams and CoE client Businesses

• Analysing and reviewing reconciliations between VAT and Intra-stat returns, VAT submissions and relevant General ledger VAT accounts to Balance sheet as per BSI standards

• Preparation and support Group TAX in respect to VAT audits

• Managing and reviewing the preparation, submission of VAT, Intra-stat, Extra-stat, EC Sales returns whilst ensuring the quality and integrity of the financial data provided.

• In conjunction with the Indirect Team within Group TAX, provide guidance and support on VAT matters to the user community (Business Customer Service Reps, outsourced accounting providers, internal accountants etc.)

• Striving to improve quality, whilst displaying "can do" attitude.

• Overseeing and pro-actively working on standardization and simplification of processes where possible

Who we're looking for
The ideal candidate is likely to have:
• Excellent understanding of UK/European VAT regulations, experience of such in an international environment

• Knowledge of external financial reporting regulation and an understanding of IFRS

• Experience of preparation and submission of VAT returns and other indirect TAX matters

• University graduate or equivalent

• Experienced part or fully qualified accountant, preferably with SAP experience

• Proven team leader skills, including providing direction, motivation and coaching team members, effective communication and monitoring performance

• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with an appreciation of diverse cultures and regional practices.

• Good business judgment in handling potentially sensitive financial and people issues

• Able to manage multiple/conflicting priorities with a strong track record of delivery against tight deadlines

• Willingness and ability to challenge current practices and processes
