Group Category Controller

Job Purpose:

• To provide an effective interface between the sourcing strategy of the Group and the day-to-day buying activity
• To continue to develop a best in class shellfish centre of excellence for Foodvest with particular focus on the growth of the category for Findus
• To pro-actively and commercially manage a shellfish purchasing spend of £60m with an expectation that this will increase significantly over time

The Role:

With significant liaison across all areas of the business, including Group Purchasing, NPD and Technical teams key responsibilities will be:

• To provide a comprehensive, professional sourcing service to the shellfish category

• To develop an extensive knowledge bank of the category to ensure quick responses to market changes to maintain the Group's commercial advantage

• To work closely with the commercial teams to ensure full and effective communication regarding demand, supply capability and range of product offering

• To thoroughly investigate the Group's position in the market, in terms of current suppliers and assessing how we can improve

• Liaison with new and existing suppliers, ensuring that all partners are in line with the strategy of the Group
• To develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and to network effectively across the market

• To assist in the development of the shellfish procurement strategy through knowledge of markets, international variations in culture, currency, etc and professional, commercial acumen

Who we're looking for
• Significant and demonstrable professional procurement experience gained within a fast-paced, ideally FMCG environment

• Excellent communicator with a strong ability and desire to network and build relationships

• Previous exposure to international markets and an appreciation of cultural differences, exchange rate issues, export and logistical hurdles

• Experience of operating in a retailer own brand market or an understanding of how it operates and the issues that can arise would be a distinct advantage

• Flexible approach that is able to see the wider business implications and is willing to take the right commercial stance for the Group

• Autonomous decision maker

• Willingness to travel internationally
