• Manage the analysis and reporting of accounting from core business systems to ensure it is understood and any variances investigated and explained.
• Manage the production of appropriate and meaningful MI to ensure that SLB product development issues are identified and escalated to senior management in Finance and business areas and improvements are influenced.
• Undertake the regular review of accounting methodology and analysis to ensure that they meet the needs of the changing business operating environment.
• Lead, manage and motivate direct reports and teams in order to maximise their contribution
• Owner of defined balance sheet and income statement accounts in the SLB and SLESL general ledger.
• Point of contact for internal and external audit issues affecting the team.
• Period end financial close in respect of Retail Accounting team transactions and SLESL controls team.
• Ensuring the team comply with the overall finance timetable.
• Maintenance of process documentation within the team.
• Ensure internal controls operate effectively and are evidenced.
• Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and documented.
• Produce monthly MI on the reconciliations for discussion with the SLB and SLESL
• Contribute to management meetings and planning.
Who we're looking for
Essential:
• Qualified Accountant with a wide experience working in a Financial Services company
• Experience of IFRS reporting and disclosure requirements
• External awareness of industry wide issues and solutions
• Excellent technical knowledge
• Experience of managing teams
Desirable:
• Strong knowledge and experience of using accounting systems including Walker.
• Knowledge of Standard Life products
• IFRS mortgage accounting knowledge
• Experience of accounting in a retail banking environment
