Graduate / Junior Economist

This vacancy offers a challenging opportunity to contribute to Corus' successful operation in a dynamic business environment, through the provision of clear analysis of Corus' operating environment. This position will assist the Group Economist and Group Strategy Department in monitoring, analysing and forecasting developments in the global economy and steel market and reporting these to internal stakeholders.

The jobholder will have responsibility for several key Departmental outputs, including:
• Assisting in the analysis and forecasting of developments in the global economy and steel market.
• Assisting in forecasting and reporting UK economic and market developments for Corus' representation in international organisations.

•Maintaining the Department's database of economic and steel market statistics.
•Assist in developing IT and other systems to ensure the efficient dissemination of information, forecasts, opinions and reports to the Executive Committee, other Corporate Centre Departments and Business Units.

The right candidate will identify topics of concern and prepare economic research papers to assist decision-making at a higher level and communicate changes and events relevant to the Tata Steel Group. You will also participate in project teams investigating various issues of strategic significance involving other members of the Strategy Department and Business Unit personnel.

Who we're looking for
The successful candidate must possess:

• A high 2:1/ 1st class degree in economics; a Masters would be advantageous but not essential.
• A proven track record in macroeconomics, quantitative analysis, forecasting, resource/industry economics or commodity research either through your studies or work experience.
• The ability to operate in a dynamic environment, with a global and diverse range of stakeholders & clients.
• Good interpersonal, organisational and time management skills.
• Excellent presentation skills (written and oral) in order to communicate complex concepts to a diverse audience.
• You will be computer literate, particularly in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, macroeconomic models and econometric software.

The right individual must also demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, supporting others in the department when necessary and travelling as required.
