Reporting to the Tax Manager, as a number 2 you will:
• To ensure the company complies with all direct and indirect tax regulations and reporting requirements (including Intrastat).
• Ensure corporate tax returns are prepared to a high standard and submitted within the statutory deadlines. This includes monitoring of instalment payments and relevant claims and elections.
• To advise the business on tax implications of business decisions.
• To coordinate tax accounting, disclosures and audit in interim and final accounts (this includes liaison with tax auditors).
• Liaison with other members of the team for example, finance and treasury.
• To ensure processes underpinning tax accounting and reporting are efficient
• To review current tax processes with the Tax Manager to ensure improvement
• To work on ad hoc projects within the tax team
They will have responsibility for overseeing work of the Tax Assistant
Key areas of responsibility also for:
• Effective tax rate
Cash tax rate
• Workflow and time management - prioritisation of work, raising issues as they arise to enable completion of tax returns/reports follows agreed work plan.
• Accuracy of provisions in Financial accounts (no surprises)
• Adherence to timetables and deadlines
• Audit differences and auditors' comments
• No penalties from HMRC.
• Results of inspections/reviews by HMRC
Who we're looking for
Degree qualified or equivalent - finance or business degree preferred but not necessary.
Qualified accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA) plus CTA or equivalent
Experience of working in a PLC desirable
