Deputy Director of Environment

Education

Egham, Surrey

Permanent ⁄ £60000 - £80000

Updated November 3, 2008

This is a marvellous opportunity to join Royal Holloway, University of London as the Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities, where you will be responsible for the strategic and operational provision of a high class estate management service across the five separate campuses, including Bedford Square, London.

The Department of Facilities Management is responsible for Hard and Soft FM services in the College. Launched just over 5 years ago in 2003, our team have recently been reviewing the organisation structure and culture to determine whether it is suitable to deliver the Department's Vision "to become a role model for inspiring, client-focused facilities management among universities worldwide."

Whilst we have made significant progress towards our goals, we need to strengthen and support the existing team to enable us to take the next dynamic steps forward in providing the best possible student, staff or visitor experience.

With a bias towards matters of a technical (Engineering and Building) nature, the Deputy Director of Environment will have direct responsibility for the estate-wide provision of engineering, building and estate management support services.

Based at the main Egham Hill campus, the Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities will play a key role in the strategic development and direction of the Estate and the Department, and will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the teams providing the physical environment in which Royal Holloway operates.

Who we're looking for
• A Chartered Engineer or Surveyor with full membership of a professional institute (IEE, CIBSE, RICS or equivalent) with considerable senior level management experience gained in large, complex buildings, managing multidisciplinary teams of professional engineering and building fabric staff.
• Experience of asset construction and maintenance management within a complex business environment, with the ability to manage and influence numerous stakeholders
• A genuine appreciation and understanding of architectural practice and the requirement, particularly in grade 1 listed buildings, to achieve appropriate design solutions for all works, no matter how small.
• Experience of life cycle management, from acquisition through to design and operation.
• An outstanding record of leadership and results achieved through teamwork.
• Strong change management experience.
• Commercial acumen and the ability to drive asset cost savings across the campus.
