Metallurgist

Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist, you will assist in the process development of the on site processes. You will be responsible for maintaining an extremely thorough and analytic approach to your work as well as providing rigorous checking and validation information to the rest of the team. You will work with the process development team within which you will be responsible for driving the team towards a finalised robust process. As part of your responsibilities you will be involved in the RCA of manufacturing problems, customer queries and processing issues.
Who we're looking for
You will have
• A Degree in Metallurgy or Material Science & Engineering - with a strong focus on ferrous metallurgy.
• Previously have worked within the steel industry.
• An excellent knowledge of steel metallurgy and testing, including metallographic testing.
• An understanding of steel processing, various casting and manufacturing techniques.
• A firm grasp of heat treatment processing and welding.
• An appreciation of both surface and sub-surface NDT methods.
• Competent working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Access.
• An ability to communicate at all levels within the organisation from shop floor to senior management.
• A methodical approach to your work with a strong analytical mind.
• A desire to further your academic career.

William Cook prefers to design and manufacture its products in-house. This retains control, and reduces reliance on sub-contractors. To assist this, William Cook has substantial process development and quality resources onsite to support its factories, which themselves include large and modern machine shops and testing establishments.
