Reporting to the Head of People Insight and Engagement, the role of Principal Consultant - People Insight and Engagement is to encourage the development of organisational capability through increasing insight into what DWP employees feel, think and know and why they do, improving their levels of engagement and consequently their contribution to the performance of the Department. This role is responsible for interfacing with the DWP business and Senior Executives and the broader HR function, to identify requirements in both People Insight and Employee Engagement, to gain commitment to the implementation of solutions and also to provide support to embed those solutions into business practice.

The key areas of focus are:
• Provide a consulting service to senior leaders across DWP:
- identifying areas where gaining People Insight would be most valuable
- gaining commitment to developing interventions to increase levels of employee engagement
- supporting the embedding of improvements into ways of working
• Develop a Community of Practice for People Insight and Engagement across DWP, to increase capability and encourage the adoption of best practice
• Design and facilitate organisation, team, and individual interventions in order to understand customer requirements, engage with stakeholders, gain commitment to solutions, embed solutions etc
• Work flexibly and collaborate with others especially the People Insight and Engagement Programmes Manager, the People Insight Strategy Manager and other Consultants in the OD team to ensure seamless provision of high quality services and that the services provided are ones that will provide optimal development of organisational capability

Undertake other activities as appropriate in support of the HR Work Programme

Who we're looking for
The successful candidate will have a demonstrable track record as a consultant, possibly in an HR Business Partner or HR Consultant role with a strong understanding of organisational development, employee engagement and people insight. The ideal candidate will possess strong consulting skills and have experience of identifying requirements, scoping projects, managing stakeholder expectations and communicating with executive managers. You will also have the ability to gain commitment to the development and implementation of solutions.
You will be a strong networker, with a demonstrable success in building networks and influencing at all levels in the organisation. You will have the ability to quickly gain an understanding of the DWP business priorities and how People Insight, Employee Engagement interventions can support the business. You must be able to work as part of a team delivering to this large complex organisation.

What's on offer
£43,200-£53,480 (National rates) plus central government benefits £47,550-£58,070 (London rates) plus central government benefits. Flexible starting salary may be available subject to experience. Closing date is the 7th July 2009.
