Accounting Standards Board, Project Director

Financial regulation

London

Permanent

Updated July 16, 2009

Do you want to help influence the future direction of financial reporting?
The Accounting Standards Board (ASB) is an operating body of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), the UK's independent regulator responsible for promoting confidence in corporate reporting and governance.

The ASB is responsible for making, amending or withdrawing accounting standards in the UK. With the move to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the ASB plays a significant role in influencing the development of international accounting standards and their adoption in the European Union. The ASB collaborates with accounting standard-setters from other countries and with the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). The FRC is currently seeking a full-time Project Director who will make a significant contribution to the ASB's success.

Reporting to the Technical Director, Project Directors assume responsibility for leading and managing ASB projects from inception to completion, developing technically sound proposals and presenting them to the Board.

Who we're looking for
Project Directors will need to demonstrate:

• Experience of dealing with technical accounting issues and a commitment to the improvement of financial reporting.
• A good awareness and understanding of the wider commercial, regulatory and political contexts that impact on financial reporting.
• Self-motivation and an ability to develop innovative and workable proposals.
• The ability and confidence to negotiate with senior members of the accounting profession and other organisations.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written, including an attention to detail.
• The ability to plan and organise work on their own initiative with little supervision, and to meet deadlines.
• The ability to work effectively as a member of a team.

Candidates selected for interview will be asked to prepare an 800 word submission on a topical financial reporting issue in advance of the interview. At the interview, candidates will be asked to give a 5-minute presentation on their submission.
