SGI, a global leader in high-performance computing and data management, are seeking to recruit a Legal Counsel to manage the UK and EMEA's commercial affairs (which includes large accounts, commercial agreements with multinational corporations, sales through indirect channels and tenders to public entities across Europe).

Based in Reading, Berkshire, you will be required to manage the commercial legal team and will have responsibility for ensuring the provision of effective legal advice and support to the management teams, managers and staff of these UK and EMEA Relationship businesses.

Responsibilities:

• Review and negotiate public and private commercial contracts for customers in the U.K. and other European countries.
• Review, negotiate and draft agreements for sales, distribution, professional services and customer support. In addition you may be required to review non-standard terms and conditions of sale that are proposed.
• Provide responsive and quality work to all clients ensuring that Legal is brought in regularly and early in all appropriate matters so as to effectively identify and address areas of risk to the business.
• Ensuring thorough (i) knowledge and communication of all existing and pending commercial, consumer and other substantive laws that may affect the EMEA business including marketing, employment and data protection and (ii) compliance with all local government and regulatory requirements in the EMEA region.
• Supporting the Human Resources department in all relevant employment matters;
• Pro-active planning, advice and training regarding the most effective use of legal strategy to support and protect the business.
• Training and educating sales staff, finance, customer engagement management, marketing, and other support functions in contract law, sales and marketing law and competition regulations.
• Administer corporate governance matters for board of directors.
• Providing legal advice on all major corporate matters including Finance and Property transactions.

Who we're looking for
SGI is looking for a candidate that can demonstrate the following key requirements:

• A qualification as a UK or European lawyer with good working knowledge of legal practice in the UK and a primary focus on commercial agreements. Essentially this candidate should have a minimum of 6 to 8 years post qualification experience in a comparable technology environment.
• Experience/exposure and knowledge of commercial and legal practice throughout Europe, specifically as it relates to EU procurement regulations, regulatory, compliance, data and employment issues. Detailed knowledge of European Union and national laws in these areas will also be a key component of the job, although one that may be obtained over time.
• Interaction within the corporate functions of a multinational corporation, preferably with experience working with a United States headquartered firm.
• Working knowledge of the Information Technology sector or practical knowledge of IT products and their respective contracts is advantageous. Ideally this experience will be gained with hardware.
• Experience working within a sales environment and working directly with sales professionals.
• Available for EMEA travel.

It is highly desirable that as well as demonstrating the above technical abilities you are able to demonstrate fluency (both written and spoken) in one or more Central European languages. Ideally French or German.
