As Head of External Affairs you will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and manage a team of 12 with 5 direct line reports. You will be responsible for devising and implementing IMI marketing (including digital), communications (including PR) and external affairs/stakeholder relations strategies and plans. You will ensure image, reputation, products and services are all promoted in the best possible way. You will develop and manage the Marketing Executive, E-Marketing Assistant and PR Executive to contribute to campaigns to realise business and marketing objectives. You will also directly manage the Motor Industry Magazine Editor and Lead National Manager to ensure a consistent message is delivered to a maximum audience. A key objective is to improve stakeholder communications which will result in productive relationships with Central Government, current and potential members, other membership organisations and IMI staff. You will develop the use of digital marketing and new media including maintaining and improving websites, e-communication, SEO, intranet and develop appropriate use of social networking. You will build relationships with agencies to ensure all publications are designed in the best possible way which utilises the powerful IMI brand. You will take the lead on all PR activity (pro and reactive) including liaising with journalists, managing the profile and reputation of IMI and acting as the media spokesperson for IMI initiatives. By keeping up to date with changes in the industry you will be able to develop an excellent portfolio of products and services to current and potential members ensuring IMI maintains it's position as the leading membership organisation within the Motor Industry. There is a series of high profile events including the Annual Dinner that you will be responsible for developing and promoting.

Who we're looking for
The successful candidate will need a proven track record in a senior marketing/communications position, ideally within the not for profit or motor industry. You will have experience of developing marketing and communication strategies and line managing and developing staff to deliver on them. You need a solid understanding of online and new media activities with tangible evidence of success including developing SEO, e-shots, driving traffic and increased presence on social websites. You need to have extensive experience of liaising with journalists, dealing with sensitive media focussed situations, being a company spokesperson and raising awareness of products and services via proactive communications. Ideally you will have experience of liaising with Central Government and developing opportunities within this and other closely related industries/stakeholders. You need to be confident in managing marketing budgets, running events and overseeing magazine production.
