EA Cares
EA Cares was launched in the Autumn of 2003 to enable EA staff to give something back to the local community.
Whilst trying to establish a company giving programme EA quickly realised that every charity has a need and is worthy of support. To ensure that their giving has focus and that the time and funds donated will have maximum impact, they established three key criteria. These are:
- Be local
- Be focused on children
- Make a real difference with our time and money donations
In line with this criteria, EA now support the following three charities on an ongoing basis:
St. Peer's Hospital - Children's Cancer Unit
St Peter's hospital had been fundraising for some time to enable them to raise enough funds to open a Children's Oncology Care Unit for children with cancer. This Unit would include provision of ensuite facilities, a 5-bedded day unit and a private area for treatments. Until March 2004, the children received treatment on standard wards, which increased their risk of infection and limited their mobility. Thanks to the fundraising of EA staff over the Christmas period, we were able to present St Peter's with a cheque for £17,500 and in March 2004, the new ward was opened and is now fully functional.
Surrey Young Carers
A young carer is someone under the age of 18 whose life is in some way restricted because of the need to take responsibility for the care of a person who is ill, has a disability, is experiencing mental ill health or is affected by substance abuse. Surrey Young Carers help these young people achieve their potential and have some fun and a break away from their home lifestyle. EA will be organising fun days out as well as visits to EA offices for the children during 2004.
Man in the Moon
Man in the Moon is a theatre group based in Guildford, who work with children with and without disabilities and learning difficulties. They produce 4 shows/productions a year in which all the children take part. Man in the Moon never turn anyone away, they give every child a chance to perform.
