History
In 1706 Twinings was one of the first companies to introduce tea drinking to England. To compete with the many coffee houses in London, Twinings opened a teashop in the Strand. Soon, Twinings tea become de rigueur for people such as Jane Austin, Charles II and Earl Grey.
Over the following decades, Twinings became firmly established as one of the country’s most popular tea producers, and by the start of the 20th century Twinings had developed the English breakfast blend, which set the standard for the first drink of the day.
