We believe that our store roles offer a wealth of opportunity, variety and experience. But don’t take our word for it – read through the following profiles and see for yourself what our employees think.

Store Manager Roles

Our Store Managers have the overall responsibility of the store operation and management of store team. They have responsibility for the sales revenue of dry stock, wet stock and valet services aligned to the defined marketing strategies (including policies and procedures) of the retail organization and must ensure business plans related to the achievement of sales targets are developed and actioned.
In addition, Store Managers train and coach store staff in order that customer service can be delivered to defined standards and sales targets can be achieved.

Denise Sherreard has been the Store Manager at TCS Moulton in Northamptonshire since 1999.

Denise was attracted to applying for the role as it provides the chance for her to manage her own team and use her initiative whilst working in a challenging, fast paced Retail environment.

It’s not an easy job to do, but Denise believes dedication and creating a good team spirit help her to run the store effectively and give good service to our customers, which in turn gives her a great deal of job satisfaction. When asked what the key qualities of successful store manager are, being a team player, being able to communicate with her staff and working hard to reach her targets were at the top of the list and evidently this philosophy works! Low customer complaints and good audit results put TCS Moulton at the top of the league for TOTAL Impression at the end of last year.

For Denise, the role of Store Manager is very varied and no two days are quite the same – as an experienced member of the TCS team she also travels around the area as a mentor manager helping other store managers with HR issues, including disciplinaries and problem solving, and her store acts as a training store for new employees to learn the ropes.

Dean Murphy has been a Store Manager for 3 years and has been at TCS Addlestone in Surrey for the last year and a half.

Dean regards his biggest achievement as becoming Store Manager at Addlestone, one of the largest stores on our network after just a year and a half with the company. He feels that this promotion really showed that the Area Manager recognised Dean’s potential and was prepared to give him the opportunity to demonstrate his skills and grow the business in one of our key 7* rated stores (the highest star rating).

Progression within a large Retail company was exactly what Dean was looking for when he applied for a career with TOTAL, and so he really sunk his teeth into the Store Manager challenge. One of the things Dean has implemented at Addlestone is using the ‘Pay at the Pump’ service for customers. This worked two-fold and not only meant that customers could fill up at our service station quickly and conveniently, but it also reduced drive offs from the road side pumps which meant our profits increased and losses were dramatically reduced at the site. After trialling this service at Addlestone store, it was successfully rolled out across the network

Dean wants to take his management career further with TOTAL and so has applied to our Territory Manager Academy programme. He feels the assessment day will allow him to prove his leadership and team-working skills and the modular programme will let him build on his existing competencies and prepare him well for any forthcoming Territory Manager roles.
