DWP currently has one of the largest HR functions in the UK, supporting a large and complex, customer-facing organisation. In the context of ongoing change across the Department, the HR function is becoming ever more focused on delivering high quality, professional service to internal clients. This is an ongoing process which requires the engagement of the whole HR function.
As part of this change, the Department has moved to a Shared Service Centre model. The Shared Service Centre is in place and HR Business Partners are working to educate clients toward a self-service orientated model. This is making strides in improving efficiency and allowing HRBPs to provide much greater added value HR Service to clients.
As a result of the restructuring, the size of the HR function will reduce over a period of time and in the context of the organisation's aims to raise the capability of its people, the quality of technical HR skills is rising. This is leading to clear improvements in quality of service and efficiency of delivery.
This is an exciting period for DWP and the HR function. People joining the senior levels of DWP HR will need to provide strong leadership and demonstrate the technical excellence that it aims to deliver.
