The assurance (audit and advisory) division within a practice firm offers perhaps the greatest variety of work of all the specialist disciplines. The type of jobs available will depend on the size of firm; the larger firms will often be working on a range of blue chip listed clients adopting a risk based approach, while the smaller firms will concentrate on owner-managed businesses.
A career in Audit will stretch your analytical ability and help you build a thorough understanding of different client businesses. A key role of the audit provider is to ensure that appropriate accounting policies and processes are being applied and irregularities in financial reporting are identified. The strong, technical accounting skills you will gain from a role in audit will also make your CV very marketable in the future.
Career progression can be rapid and highly structured with a major focus given to in-house training courses and continued professional development, this may include secondments overseas, to other disciplines, or to clients.
