Career opportunities for expats in the UK

Career opportunities for expats in the UK

Living and working in the UK is a goal for many, and an opportunity to gain work experience on a global scale. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people migrate to the UK, with work opportunities being the most common reason behind the decision to move. The working holiday visa, or Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa is a popular choice for expats looking to explore their options, particularly among Australians and New Zealanders.

If you are considering making a move to the UK or have recently arrived, we can offer you a career that provides you with industry-specific and global commercial experience. PageGroup is a global, market-leading recruitment company, expanding into new regions every year. A career in recruitment is highly rewarding both in terms of the experience you will gain and financial benefits.

“Everything was made very straightforward, from flights to accommodation. I had only worked in the Sydney office for a couple of months prior to the move to the UK, but PageGroup offered me a position in London when my visa got rejected and Michael Page Sydney was no longer able to sponsor me. The transition was smooth, apart from adjusting to the weather and having a double winter!” – Sebastian Andreasen, Consultant, Michael Page London

A global career

Whether you have experience working in recruitment or have gained experience in a specific business sector, we are always looking for talented professionals with the drive to excel, to join our team. Many of our employees have taken up the chance to work abroad in another office, and for those who join us on a two-year working visa in the UK, there is always the opportunity to transfer back to one of our offices in Australia or New Zealand.

“My experience of moving to Australia from London was fantastic. I had an encouraging managing director in the UK who had worked in Australia himself, and he connected me with the team in Sydney. I couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome and met a lot of friends through PageGroup. I had three years’ experience with PageGroup in London at this point, so it was great to put my skills and experience to use in a new market, and quickly start making money.” – Clare Johnson, Director, Page Personnel Sydney

Our global purpose states: “PageGroup changes lives for people through creating opportunity to reach potential.”

The Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa

For many professionals from Australia and New Zealand, the two-year UK working visa is a popular option to gain experience in the UK.

A Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa allows the holder to work and study in the UK for up to two years. There are a number of different visa options, but for those looking to explore life in the UK, live in close proximity to Europe and gain global work experience, this is one of the most accessible routes.

You can apply for a Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa if you are aged 18-30 and are from one of the following countries:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Japan
  • Monaco
  • New Zealand
  • Hong Kong (sponsorship required before you can apply)
  • Republic of Korea (sponsorship required before you can apply)
  • Taiwan

There are some restrictions, however, so be sure to check your eligibility.
