Bullet points

  • Exciting opportunity for a Non Executive Director to join a growing business

  • Kent HoldCo is a business owned by Kent CC but operates in the commercial sphere

About Our Client

Kent HoldCo is the holding company for Kent County Council's (KCC) Local Authority Trading Companies (LATCos). The strategy is to grow and develop the different businesses to deliver high quality services whilst generating dividends and, potentially, capital gains.

There are three principal business areas: managed ICT and back-office services; procurement frameworks including energy trading, specialist recruitment and educational supplies; education consultancy services including schools improvement; and a number of smaller businesses ranging from specialist legal services, property management, and direct labour services including landscaping. In total, the Kent HoldCo group employs over 1,600 people and generates over £150m in direct revenue whilst supporting over £600 million of traded activity.

The businesses are all at difference stages of growth, with some still providing the majority of their services to KCC. However, they are well placed to develop in both the public and private sectors and expand their products and services profitably.

Job Description

As the Chair of the Group Audit and Risk Committee you will develop and manage an effective Audit & Risk Committee as the cornerstone of Kent HoldCo's overall assurance framework, providing the technical skills, focused scrutiny and challenge needed to help keep the business safe and to support and inform the wider Board. A key part of your role will be effective, constructive and, where necessary, critical engagement with all relevant stakeholders, including KCC Internal Audit, the Group Finance Director and external auditors.

You will also be a member of the Kent HoldCo Board and expected to play full part in scrutinising, challenging and contributing your insight and expertise to the overall direction of the Group as it embarks on the next, exciting stage of its development.

This is a unique time to be joining Kent HoldCo with a real opportunity to shape the future of this new Group and make a real contribution to public services and the economy in Kent.

The Successful Applicant

You will be a CCAB or equivalent qualified accountant who has held an Executive post within organisations of a similar size and complexity. Experience working with or attending an Audit & Risk Committee is essential, with extensive exposure to Executives and Boards in previous roles.

The ideal candidate will have driven operational performance and increased profitability in their professional career and be used to working in a change environment. Having knowledge of mergers and acquisitions or debt management would also be useful for this role.

You will be confident in your own ability and used to providing effective challenge, having held positions where you have had to influence and persuade individuals round to your way of thinking.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to join a high performing Group and make a real impact on a well-funded and ambitious organisation.

KentHoldCo principal subsidiaries include: Cantium Business Solutions Limited; Commercial Services Group (Kent County Trading Limited and its subsidiaries); EDSECO Ltd (t/a The Education People); Invicta Law Limited; and Gen2 Property Limited.

What's on Offer

£25,000 per annum, including a £5,000 supplement for the Chair role.

Time commitment

25 days per annum including preparation

3-year initial term with an option to extend for a further 3-years.
