Our client is one of the UK's leading independent hospital groups and the largest in terms of revenue. From their 39 hospitals and 33 clinics, medical centres and consulting rooms across England, Wales and Scotland, they provide diagnostics, inpatient, day case and outpatient care in areas including orthopaedics, gynaecology, cardiology, neurology, oncology and general surgery. They also operate a network of private GPs and provide occupational health services to over 700 corporate clients.

Job Description

Now seeking a Commercial Lawyer to join their award winning in-house Legal Team, key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the provision of timely and effective legal advice to the Group and senior management. This will include assisting the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel in providing the same to executive management and the Board.
  • Drafting, negotiating, and advising on a wide range of commercial contracts both for central teams, hospitals, and clinics.
  • Assisting and supporting on a variety of corporate transactions including acquisitions, disposals, and joint ventures.
  • Providing commercial and regulatory legal support to hospitals, clinics and other departments including Pathology, Group Purchasing, Property & Estates, Marketing, Business Development, Finance/Tax and NHS Contracting.
  • Supporting with competition law matters.
  • Delivering legal induction and other legal training to Hospital Directors, Directors of Clinical Services, and other senior staff.
  • Supplying legal input into the legal team's regular reports to executive management and the Board.
  • Keeping up to date the legal team precedent documents.
  • Producing and keeping up to date the corporate policies for which the legal team have responsibility.
  • Managing external counsel and legal spend.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate will effectively demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • UK qualified Solicitor.
  • Strong academic background (2:1 degree or equivalent).
  • 1-2 years experience as a Commercial Solicitor within private practice or a supervised in-house role.
  • Extensive Commercial contract drafting skills.
  • Sound understanding of data protection and their application within commercial contracts.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and reliable, with a 'can do' attitude and ability to take initiative.
  • Strong organisation skills and with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
  • Ability to build rapport easily as well as effective relationships.
  • Innovative mindset with a keen desire to take on new projects.
