Job Description
The Compliance Analyst's responsibilities include;
- Support the Head of Wholesale Markets Compliance to deliver physical and financial regulatory compliance across the group
- Perform all associated BAU activities with wholesale energy (REMIT, licences, industry codes) and financial market (EMIR, MAR, MiFID II, FSMA/RAO) regulations
- Perform trade, dispatch and electronic communications surveillance monitoring and escalate issues to management
- Conduct independent monitoring, reviews and investigations into compliance matters as required
- Lead 2LOD assurance for functions across the business, implementing and supporting mitigation strategies whilst providing support on 1LOD and 3LOD activities.
- Support collating information and responding to Requests For Information (RFIs) from regulatory bodies (e.g. Ofgem, FCA) and brokers
- Lead the maintenance of Legal Tables in collaboration with Legal, advising Trading of changes to the regulatory status of tradeable products and their routes to market i.e. via exchanges, brokers, etc.
- Support compliance monitoring and assurance framework (e.g. timely annual risk assessments, audits, etc.)
- Provide Compliance guidance to trading, commercial and strategy colleagues in relation to current and forthcoming regulatory development activities
- Continually manage and improve policies, processes, systems and capabilities in line with the latest regulations
- Continually seek to foster and build relationships with key business partners including Trading, Generation, Legal and Risk
- Develop relationships with internal and external (market operator, regulators) stakeholders
- Facilitate management in the preparation of risk mitigation reports for Committees and other internal forums, as necessary
- Support ad hoc business and projects, as necessary
The Successful Applicant
The successful Compliance Analyst should be;
- Educated to degree level
- Basic understanding of wholesale physical and financial markets
- Basic knowledge of Energy Market regulatory framework including REMIT, MAR, MiFID II, EMIR, TCLC, S&P, FSMA and RAO
- Understanding of regulatory risks associated with energy/financial markets (implications/sanctions)
- Prior experience working with commercial teams (including 24hr trading functions), building trust, confidence and respect whilst challenging the status quo
- Experience participating in projects that involve complex data and influencing the operational culture of a business
- Negotiating, influencing and communicating effectively with Senior Stakeholders
- Involvement in investigations, including large volumes of data gathering, complex analysis, interviewing personnel and developing/presenting conclusions and recommendations to management
- Ability to cut through complexity to identify principal impacts and practical options
- Able to communicate complex issues simply and concisely
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Constructive in approach, works towards the wider objectives of the team and group
- Open to new ideas, develops new ways of working, challenges the status quo
- Leads by example, meets agreed actions, strong moral compass
