Job Description
Consumer Policy Manager
London
Role:
- Work as part of the Consumer Panel Secretariat, helping the Organisation to understand fully, and take account of, the interests of consumers in its policy development and decisions
- Use existing research, request the Organisation undertakes new targeted research, and gather intelligence, in order to understand the consumer experience
- Provide the Organisation with feedback from a consumer perspective on the effectiveness of its policies and practices
- Build relationships with Panel members and ensuring the Panel functions as a team, making sure the Panel provides high quality input across a wide variety of policy areas, and developing the Panel's profile internally
- The secretariat acts as the 'guardian of the panel' providing the link between the Panel and the regulator and is uniquely placed to influence policy development and generate real impact for consumers
- Seek out and identify high-risk consumer issues that are adversely impacting choice, value and fair treatment for consumers.
- Develop, implement and oversee processes for prioritising these consumer issues for further action
- In consultation with internal stakeholders, and based on robust analysis and evidence

- develop and agree the Organisation's policy position in relation to these issues
- identify strategies for tackling these issues in the form of regulatory action, reputational regulation, etc
The Successful Applicant

Essential Criteria:
- Excellent background in developing an 'advanced-expert' level of knowledge, skills and competency in a field relevant to consumer protection.
- Possession of, or proven ability to develop, thorough, detailed and up-to-date knowledge of consumer law and applied consumer policy.
- Experience of working in a regulatory and/or compliance-based environment.
- Strong drafting skills and the ability to bring together complex and technical argument and analysis in a structured, accessible and analytically rigorous way.
- Practical experience of working collaboratively with others across multi-disciplinary and probably multi-agency groups.
- Highly developed communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly, including to senior colleagues.
