About Our Client

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) oversees the police complaints system in England and Wales. We investigate the most serious matters, including deaths following police contact, and set the standards by which the police should handle complaints. We use learning from our work to influence changes in policing.

Job Description

· Deputising for the Head of Communications and Assistant Head of Communications as required as a member of the communications management team

· Acting as the professional lead for the organisation on matters of editorial content and design

· Managing and developing the members of the Content & Design Team - three direct reports (two senior communications officers who supervise, an editorial officer and graphic designer, and a publications coordinator)

· Managing the development and implementation of communications strategies and projects to promote the IOPC and its work to stakeholders and the general public.

· Managing the delivery of communications projects via a range of channels including publications, events, and digital platforms.

· Providing communications advice to colleagues at all levels, including members of the management board.

· Developing and championing the use of the IOPC brand guidelines and style guide

· Develop the communication team's relationships with third party organisations to seek out and exploit new communications channels to reach our key audiences

· Draft a range of key corporate publications, including the annual report and the impact report

· Oversee the work of the publications officer to ensure that appropriate support is provided to the Operations Directorate on the publication of investigation reports and summaries and that the communications team is kept aware of developments.

· Coordinating budgets for specific projects to ensure value for money is provided.

· Working closely with other members of the Communications team, the wider Strategy & Impact directorate and colleagues across the organisation as appropriate to ensure communications are joined-up and consistent.

· Proactively promoting the services and role of Communications within the IOPC.

· Liaising with external suppliers including copywriters, designers, printers and venues.

The Successful Applicant

· Experience of leading a corporate communications or marketing role in a high-profile organisation

· Experience of devising and implementing communications strategies

· Excellent project management skills and experience of managing a range of communications projects with competing deadlines

· Experience of managing the editing, design, print and distribution of publications

· Experience leading development of resources to support communications plans both on and offline

· Experience of working with a range of stakeholder organisations

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal confidently with people at all levels

· Experience of managing and developing staff

· Experience of procuring services such as design and print and working with external suppliers

· Good IT skills in Microsoft Office packages with the ability to quickly learn and support others on new systems. Experience of using desk top publishing packages such as inDesign would be an advantage
