About Our Client

This Data Protection and Compliance Advice Manager, sits with a leading, international automotive business. The role will be based from the Farnborough office, with flexibility to work from home as well as the office. For candidates based further afield, an arrangement of more home (vs. office) working can be agreed.

The company is international, with a well recognised and regarded brand. It's a great opportunity to join the business in a key, decision making compliance role. The role takes overall responsibility for compliance advice for the UK companies (5 different entities), with one direct report.

The role sits as part of a Compliance team of four individuals, the team works closely with Group Compliance team, as well as Compliance and Legal teams from sister companies. The team also works with other EU Compliance teams on specific projects, where regulations affect multiple locations.

Job Description

This Data Protection and Compliance Advice Manager role is based in Farnborough (with flexibility to split time between office and home working). The role is broad, covering both non regulated and an FCA regulated entity. Ideally, the successful candidate will have covered the majority of the following areas of corporate compliance/ regulation:data protection, anti-bribery and corruption, ethics, financial crime, sanctions, product compliance and FCA compliance. Specific responsibilities:

  • Representing the Compliance team and acting as the Company compliance resource in all project and product development activities.
  • Managing all investigation activities surrounding potential compliance breaches/risks.
  • Managing any necessary remediation activities or any customer/employee communications on compliance topics.
  • Providing a robust and independent challenge to the business in relation to Compliance topics.
  • Providing on-going regulatory advice, making recommendations as appropriate.
  • Providing regular updates to the Head of Risk, Governance & Compliance on compliance activities.
  • Leading with the investigation of breaches and breach remediation exercises as required.
  • Leading with ad hoc investigations and special reviews as they arise.
  • Leading investigations into any suspicious activity escalated by staff.
  • Acting as the delegate for the Head of Risk, Governance & Compliance in periods of absence.
  • Overseeing and steering of IT security requirements required by the business and monitoring delivery by IT.
  • Privacy notices, managing and replying to requests for exercising data subject rights, in particular subject access requests, issuing privacy impact assessments, legitimate interest assessments and similar risk assessments.
  • Compiling, reviewing and maintaining all Compliance policies for UK entities, in line with Group policies and instructions, and Compliance procedures.
  • Overseeing and maintaining all key policies within the business, ensuring that they are regularly updated and remain in line with regulatory expectations
  • Reviewing key outputs from relevant regulators, industry bodies, trade press, firms of solicitors etc. to ensure that senior management and the business are aware of regulatory developments that impact them.
  • Liaising with Legal department and other relevant functions to ensure legislative changes are captured.
  • Reviewing and approving all statutory disclosures.
  • Ensuring that all communications with customers are clear, fair and non-misleading
  • Leading the delivery of the Annual Compliance Plan, contributing to reporting of performance against plan.

The Successful Applicant

This Data Protection and Compliance Advice Manager role is based in Farnborough (with flexibility to split time between office and home working). The role is very broad, covering both non regulated and an FCA regulated entities.

  • Must have data protection experience
  • Must have some experience of managing FCA compliance
  • Wider corporate compliance covered: anti-bribery and corruption, product compliance, sanctions and ethics
  • Significant experience in legal or compliance role in a complex, international business
  • Experience in the automotive sector desirable;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent time management skills and the ability to operate under pressure
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with a proactive approach to seeking information and identifying solutions;
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate & influence across all levels as required;
  • Ability to work on own initiative without direct supervision
  • Legal background is desirable;
  • Experience of working and effectively communicating with headquarter functions and Group companies in other jurisdictions is desirable;
  • Experience in Project Management will be an advantage.
