Job Description
This Leading International Law Firm require a Senior MS SQL Database Administrator to provide a high level of technical support across the business, working as part of a highly-skilled technology team supporting their global infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Taking the lead in the evaluation, design, implementation, and support of new and changed IT Database / Data Warehouse environments (on-prem and Cloud) and related system management tools
- Respond to 3rd line technical support queries professionally and efficiently, maintaining a high degree of customer service
- Be a key contributor and role model within the IT Infrastructure team, ensuring that changes to Databases and SQL services align with operational and strategic plans.
- Carry out regular performance testing and tuning to ensure all production systems are optimised and regularly backed up according to the firm's policies.
- Ensure SQL platforms are continually updated and upgraded to remain within supported versions.
- Support the Group Infrastructure & Operations Manager with the development of technology roadmaps for all database systems.
- Maintenance of production and development test environments, including database refresh, upgrade, and migration activities.
- Mentor, coaches, and develops team members to develop skills, processes, and standards continuously.
- Work with peers and senior stakeholders for Service Continuity (BCP & DR) Planning ensuring suitable arrangements are in place in the event of significant service disruption
- Provide technical solution ownership, evaluating designs and alternatives prior to delivering infrastructure and services as part of a project or product team.
- Provide technical support for incoming queries from both internal customers and external clients
- Responsibility for regular proactive and preventative maintenance tasks, including patches, updates, and upgrades to operating systems,
- Ensure the design documentation and operational procedures are produced and maintained
Ideally you will have:
- A minimum of 5 years' SQL design and support experience as Database Administrator or Data Warehouse Developer in a professional services environment, where a high level of customer service and technical expertise is required.
- Expert and current knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 - 2019.
- MCSA/MCSE certification or equivalent experience (in relation to SQL) is highly desirable
- Excellent knowledge of SSRS/SSIS
- Good knowledge of PowerBI
- Knowledge of Microsoft Database Services within Azure is highly desirable but can be evolved within the role
- Experience and knowledge of query performance tuning & optimisation.
- Experience and knowledge of using SQL performance & monitoring utilities for capacity and performance planning.
- Knowledge and understanding of merge replication.
- Knowledge of HA technologies to include AlwaysOn, Mirroring, Log shipping, Double-Take replication.
- A good working knowledge/understanding of Microsoft SQL licensing models and requirement
- Experience in compiling project costs and managing to an agreed budget. Looks for value when evaluating competing software products and for opportunities to reduce development costs.
- Other desirable (but not essential) technical knowledge includes: Design, build and run experience of Microsoft technologies, including Windows Server, Active Directory, VMWare, Exchange Server, Microsoft Office and Azure
The Successful Applicant
