Job Description
This Global leader in specialist pharmaceutical services requires a Database Administrator / Engineer to provide support to one of its key European Divisions. You will be instrumental in the ongoing development and evolution of database environments and support on a key migration from Oracle to MS SQL Server. There are further opportunities to work with the Business Intelligence function to deliver a step change in Analytics Services within the organisation. The role is fully remote.Key Responsibilities:
- Setup DB environment: Perform recommendations on DB technologies; Specify server requirements for DB hosting; Ensure alignment between Application and Infrastructure on DB specs and implementation
- Administration & Maintenance of enterprise Databases. Ensuring company data is secure, and compliant with ISO 27001:2013
- Working with IT infrastructure to implement DR policies and conform to company RTO and RPO
- Application & Infrastructure Projects support: database migration, creation, optimization
- Performance improvement: Efficiency of schema designs - optimal use of indexes / keys / page size
- General DB Security / access and rights management: Backup policy & BCDR; Anonymization of data for application development environment; Configuration of Encryption at rest
- Fully remote with occasional travel to the office (Birmingham, Heathrow and Warrington areas)
- Opportunity to extend scope on Business Intelligence and Report generation
Key Skills & Requirements:
- Experienced in MS SQL server, SSAS, SSRS, SSIS
- Knowledge of Oracle (legacy DB)
- Comfortable with remote working with both Infra and Application teams
- Autonomous and transparent, enthusiastic team player with many stakeholders: Infra, Dev, LIMS, BI teams
- Experience of working in an Agile environment and understanding of software development methodologies
- Being able to obtain SC clearance and NPPV Level 3
Desirable skills
- Other existing DB: Oracle (to be migrated), PostgreSQL
- Commvault
- SQL Server queries. Use of Stored Procedures, joins, transactions and CRUD operations
