About Our Client

St George's Hospital Charity supports St George's Hospital NHS foundation trust in the delivery of care to patients at both St Georges Hospital and Queen Mary's Hospital, as well as the wider communities.

The charity is independent of the NHS Trust and focuses on enhancing and improving the quality of patient care beyond that achieved by routine NHS funding, plus on health initiatives for the wider community. The Charity has around 26 staff and is based on the St George's hospital site. The teams comprise Grants, Arts, Fundraising, Communications & Marketing and Operations and Finance.

This role is responsible for developing and implementing strategy and policy for Finance, Human Resources, IT provision, governance, compliance, and ad-hoc operational issues. Reporting to the CEO and as part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Director of Operations will work with the trustees to implement new initiatives and strategies and delivery of our exciting new vision.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for controlling, monitoring and reporting the Charity's financial affairs ensuring effective financial management, planning, and reporting.
  • Advise the CEO and the Board on their governance, compliance, regulatory and financial duties, and responsibilities.
  • To manage the Operations Team, ensuring each has a clear understanding of their objectives and responsibilities and how they support the strategy of the Charity.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with key members of the Trust and be responsible for and manage the Service Level Agreement between the Charity and the Trust.
  • As a member of the SLT, play a key role in realising the Charity's vision of expanding its activities and impact ensuring it has the systems, policy and processes to underpin this vision.
  • Liaise with the Honorary Treasurer to discuss the financial and investment activities of the Charity and to service quarterly meetings of the Finance Sub-committee and Board.
  • To keep fully informed about new ideas, technological innovations and legal and regulatory changes affecting all relevant aspects of charity management. To anticipate the Charity's resource needs as it develops and expands and to plan and implement the necessary changes in liaison with executive colleagues.
  • Manage external relationships, representing the Charity in external facing meetings and events as required
  • Deputise for the CEO as required

The Successful Applicant

You will be a fully qualified accountant and have a track record of leadership for operations, including setting strategy and implementing change, both financial and organisational . You will have been involved in implementation of a vision and strategy across an organisation previously, and you will have led on key governance and company secretary duties.

An understanding of the charity sector would be highly beneficial but is not essential.
