This role will be a key part of the team, giving you the opportunity to develop your knowledge of flood risk management and to gain a breadth of experience through the delivery of a wide range of flood risk management initiatives, and delivering the statutory responsibilities of the Lead Local Flood Authority.Job DescriptionAs an Engineer in Flood Risk Development Control, your key duties will be:To evaluate and provide advice on planning applications relating to surface water management.Ensure development in Calderdale is aligned to the recently adopt Supplementary Planning Document on Flood Risk and DrainageUphold the Lead Local Flood Authorities statutory role within the planning process in accordance with local and national policies and guidance.Provide specialist technical input to statutory and non-statutory planning consultation responses for surface water & flood risk management.To provide expert advice and guidance towards the development, maintenance and management of the Council's Strategic Flood Risk Assessment.Attend Council Committees, Panels and briefing meetings with Elected Members providing technical advice and making recommendations on the content of the work area.Contribute to the consenting and enforcement for works on ordinary watercourses.The Successful ApplicantHave experience working with water, drainage, flood risk, sustainable drainage environmental science, geological, development or infrastructure or related industry.Candidates from graduate level or equivalent upwards will be considered, as long as you have more than 3 years industry experience in a related roleA Degree or equivalent training in Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or equivalent specialism trainingMust hold a full UK driving licenceYou might be a member or working towards membership of a professional body such as ICE / CIWEM but this is not essentialStrong organisational and communication skillsGood understanding of the principals of flood risk management, land drainage systems and LLFA functionsAn understanding of local authority or public sector processes and regulations would be an advantageAn excellent communicator at all levels, with managing senior stakeholder relationships, customer and public facing communication and project teams.What's on OfferThis role offers a starting band from £39,185 at Grade PO5 up to Grade PO8 which is £42,403. This salary is subject to a Pay Award, so there will be an increase which is yet to be confirmed.
