Job Description

Strategy Development:

  • Define and keep up-to-date a supply chain & procurement strategy (for key categories) and plan for areas of spend under management, including performance measurement and management
  • Oversee combined strategy across multiple sites/ areas of the business
  • Maintain a healthy pipeline of supply chain/ sourcing activity

S&OP and Inventory Management

  • Facilitate the S&OP process bringing together sales, operations and finance and other key stakeholders to regularly optimise demand & supply
  • Optimise the level and composition of inventory on each site based on customer demand, supply lead times, safety stock required
  • Minimising disruption in meeting customer requirements and ensuring proactive communication of issues to management and supply chain partners
  • Successfully delivering on key organisational objectives relating to supply chain and customer service
  • Responsible for the stock-take and for updating the standards in the system
  • Supporting the roll out of new product introductions

Supply Chain Projects:

  • Manage team to deliver a portfolio of planned and reactive supply chain projects
  • Ensure the quality and timeliness of the supply chain projects
  • Recognise synergies with other areas of spend and incorporate where appropriate
  • Ensure compliance to relevant customer requirements and other legal requirements

Sourcing Projects:

  • Identify sourcing opportunities that deliver tangible benefits
  • Manage team to deliver a portfolio of planned and reactive sourcing projects
  • Ensure the quality and timeliness of the Sourcing projects
  • Recognise synergies with other areas of spend and incorporate where appropriate
  • Ensure compliance to UK[EU] procurement legislation and relevant customer requirements and other legal requirements (eg. transportation)

Data Analytics:

  • Supervise analysis process (e.g. spend, inventory analysis), overcome obstacles, solicit input from and support of senior stakeholders and suppliers/partners where necessary
  • Prepare (or provide guidance on how to prepare) a comprehensive category profile
  • Use sampling / statistical techniques and deploy them effectively
  • Identify creative and alternative means of structuring an approach to data analysis when required
  • Coach the team to develop approaches to ill-defined problems or new subject areas


  • Demonstrate a track record in leading complex or challenging negotiations
  • Think creatively about variables that can be traded to optimise the outcome as part of a full negotiation plan/strategy
  • Coach others in this area

Managing People:

  • Structure and manage the work of multiple project team members and more junior staff well
  • Involve all team members, redirecting team members as focus shifts
  • Ensure quality and timeliness in team deliverables
  • Delegate effectively
  • Manage bi-annual review process and create development plans for team members where needed

The Successful Applicant

Must Have:

  • Experience (5-7 yrs) in a relevant Supply Chain Manager role in a multi-stakeholder and multi-site environment procuring and optimising direct technical material spend
  • Excellent and demonstrable sourcing skills - knowledge of all aspects of the 'Strategic Sourcing Cycle' and working capital processes
  • Excellent contract definition skills and extensive experience adapting commercial terms to the benefit of the client
  • Experience of a programme based business with discrete production processes
  • Excellent and demonstrable experience of creating and managing category/supplier plans
  • Excellent and demonstrable interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrable leadership skills
  • Excellent commercial awareness and hunger for best value
  • 'Hands-on' mentality, self-starter, resilient and tenacious under pressure
  • Good educational achievement to Degree level
  • Keen analytical mind and excellent Excel and Powerpoint skills


  • Prior sector experience
  • Experience in project based complex (customer, product, legal) sourcing
  • Procurement/ supply chain qualifications eg. CIPS
  • Basic German language skills
