This role sits within the Commercial Function of GSTTFT which is responsible for driving commercial activities for the trust to generate profit that is then reinserted back into the front line. Through the diversification of the Trust's income, GSTTFT is able to enhance its services and expertise. The main lines within the portfolio include

- UK and International Business Development

-GSTT Consulting

-Commercialisation of Innovation (including protection of intellectual property)

-Commercial Education and Events

-NHS business development

-Retail Services.
 

Job Description

The role of the Head of Commercial Finance is a key leadership role within the Commercial Finance function and within the wider GSTTFT leadership team.

The main responsibilities can be broken down into four areas:

Finance Management and reporting

  • management & development of the commercial finance team ; direct line management of 5-7 people including upskilling and development plans
  • overseeing of the financial reporting of the commercial finance team ; ensuring that the reporting pack is delivered to board on time and to a good standard, oversee the monthly cycle
  • drive improvements and efficiencies across the commercial finance team and through its processes ;

Stakeholder engagement

  • building relationships with the central finance team and each clinical finance team to ensure that they are clear on the commercial finance vision and that they are supported to be able to deliver on these plans
  • maintain good relationships with leads of each team ; attending meetings and assisting with reporting
  • building a peer group between the other finance leads throughout the business to ensure united targets are hit

Subject Matter Expert for wider GSTTFT Leadership

  • attending senior meetings and advising the wider trust's leadership team on commercial issues/ideas
  • being the financial expert within the commercial team ; advising on projects and opportunities

Strategic and Business Opportunity Lead

  • working with the wider Commercial team to provide the financial nous to navigate new business opportunities
  • to assess and advise the business on the risk and opportunity of a venture from a financial point of view ; take on bench marking, long term financial modelling, business cases etc
  • support the commercial strategy of the Commercial team through a strong financial function
  • provide innovative ideas and approaches that constantly challenge the Trust on its traditional approaches to financial management in its broadest sense, provided they comply with the statutory requirements of the Trust and its regulatory framework
  • think outside the box and use the challenges of the Public Sector to the businesses advantage

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate must exhibit the following qualities

  • be fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)

Have had experience of

  • working in a senior leadership role within finance
  • working in a private business leading a finance function
  • strong commercial business experience ; someone who has worked with a growing/developing business that required modelling/risk analysis/commercial development etc
  • working in a development business
  • some Public Sector experience preferable
  • ability to work across matrix of senior people
