Job Description

As Head of Finance Business Partnering you will be a critical member of the finance team providing a close link and support between senior stakeholders and your finance colleagues. Key areas of delivery will include:

  • To lead the team in the provision of all aspects of financial reporting and associated KPIs to meet the requirements of the Executive Leadership Team and Board.
  • Providing a robust and high quality financial business partnering service across the group, liaising with key stakeholders and adopting an approach of continuous improvement.
  • Lead the group financial forecasting process (with reference to the quarterly submissions from Heads of Department) for presentation to the Executive Leadership Team and Group Board.
  • To be the primary lead for the preparation of the budget through the group business planning process. Ensuring that the financial information is collated, reviewed and consolidated in a timely manner. Guide the team in training and supporting budget holders with the process.
  • To be a member of the Finance Senior Management Team and provide a strategic input to the plans for the department and the group.
  • To champion sound financial practice and compliance with Luminate Education Group Financial Regulations and procedures.
  • Lead the completion of month end processes in line with the management accounts timetable and ensure delivery of meaningful and accurate reports in a timely manner to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of funding streams to enhance the support provided to budget holders.
  • Work in conjunction with budget holders and the financial systems team to continually improve information flow and financial reporting to support key stakeholders.
  • Support the Chief Financial Officer in the production of the group three year plan for submission to the ESFA and other regulatory bodies.
  • To lead the team in the active management of capital expenditure and capital grant application and allocation process.
  • To lead the team in challenging poor financial control and supporting budget holders to ensure the best use of available resources, encouraging value for money behaviours.
  • Provide ad hoc reports, reviews and project support to budget holders and the Chief Financial Officer and shared service customers as required.
  • To liaise with internal and external auditors as appropriate and ensure implementation of any recommendations arising from reviews.
  • Ensure adequate provision of financial support and training to all service users, engaging with shared service partners at all levels to maintain a high level of service.
  • Provide management and support for staff in accordance with agreed policies.

The Successful Applicant

Candidates will need the following key skills, qualifications and experience to be successful as Head of Business Partnering.

  • Fully Accountancy qualified CCAB (ACA / ACCA / CIPFA) or CIMA accountant
  • Degree qualified
  • Substantial post-qualification experience working at senior level in a complex organisation
  • Experience of successfully leading, supervising and managing a team.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the education sector including regulatory frameworks, systems and external environment.
  • Experience of using IT systems at an advanced level including Microsoft Office and proprietary financial systems.
  • Experience of communicating to a wide range of audiences including writing reports and delivering presentations.
  • Experience of UK Generally Accepted Accounting Practice including FRS102.
  • Experience of supporting colleagues from a non-financial background to understand their responsibilities as a budget holder, in developing business cases and utilising resources to the maximum impact.
  • Able to use own initiative, originate action and be responsible for the consequences of decisions made.
  • Communicates, challenges and influences a variety of stakeholders effectively. Able to present sound and well-reasoned arguments to convince others. Can draw from a range of strategies to persuade people in a way that results in agreement or behaviour change. Where necessary resolves highly charged, high-profile conflicts.
