Job Description

Objectives of the post
1. Advise and represent clients who live or work in all areas of housing law taking
cases as necessary to all levels of courts and tribunals
2. Contribute to the development of services and ensuring the organisation maintains and complies
with all necessary regulatory and quality assurance standards
1. Advice and Representation
1.1 Provide a housing advice and casework service to clients. Including, interviewing and advising
them of their rights and responsibilities, assessing suitability and effectiveness of alternative
courses of action, advising on potential challenges and legal procedures
1.2 Assist clients in liaising with other people and organisations to resolve their housing problems
1.3 Represent clients at Courts and Tribunals, including conducting the necessary preparation and
research, attending clients at home, instructing Counsel and attending Counsel's chambers with
clients as necessary
1.4 Participate in the housing rota as required
1.5 Ensure that all advice, assistance and representation is compliant with Quality Standards
and with Legal Aid and funding requirements
1.6 Ensure timely filing and recording of all casework in the case management system to support
prompt billing and payment of work undertaken
1.7 Meet billing and time recording targets which are set in accordance with the overall requirements
of GHR's annual budget and funded activities, including Legal Aid contracts
1.8 Contribute to ensuring the firm plays a full and active part in local advice partnerships and act as a
legal resource, providing second-tier housing advice to other agencies
1.9 Be responsible for your own professional development and maintaining your Solicitors Practicing
Certificate, informing the Director if additional resources are required
2. Service developments
2.1 Contribute to maintaining the Office Manual and Quality Assurance Standards in compliance
with funder and regulatory requirements (e.g. SRA Code of Conduct)
2.2 Contribute to all aspects of the development and marketing of the firm's advice and casework services
as appropriate
2.3 Participate in the development of strong referral arrangements with local agencies, including
providing training on housing and homelessness matters as necessary
2.4 Actively promote the firm and the interests of our clients through participation in the activities of
Local, National and London wide agencies
3. General
3.1 Contribute to staff and planning meetings and participate in personal supervision, appraisal
and one to one meetings with the Director, as required
3.2 Be self-servicing and responsible for all recording, typing and filing arising out of the performance
of these duties
3.3 Contribute to the general activities of the firm, including attending AGMs, fundraising and outreach
3.4 Ensure that all activities are undertaken in line with firm policies and procedures, including
Equality and Diversity, Confidentiality, Complaints and Health & Safety policies
3.5 Carry out other duties as required to maintain services, including providing first point of contact
advice services and working outside of office hours if required from time to time

The Successful Applicant

Qualified solicitor.

Background in housing law.

Based in London or Essex.
