About Our Client

A leading Northamptonshire based Charity with a successful retail arm.

Job Description

· Work closely with the buyer to help shape the buying strategy by analysing the factors affecting costs, profits and sales performance and integrating historical data with thorough market and competitor knowledge

· Manage all aspects of the development, workload and priorities of the merchandising team providing a clear sense of direction and leadership

· Plan range width, depth and content to optimise profitability in the context of New Goods whilst supporting the overall retail offer

· Support senior management, the buying and merchandising team, E Commerce, field staff and other key stakeholders by providing relevant and accurate data to inform decision making

· Ensure the merchandising team grade and re-grade stores according to performance and space

· Trade the business commercially and pro-actively using the merchandising tools available including effective analysis, pricing and distribution in particular

· Manage the planning and forecasting process from line level up to department OTBs to drive profits whilst minimising costs and risks

· Plan and manage multi-channel distribution controlling and effectively utilising stocks

· Manage suppliers, negotiate costs and control the purchase ordering process

· Manage the warehouse relationship and processes effectively

· Liaise effectively with the field teams acting as an ambassador for the New goods department and providing the relevant information to support their aims

· Communicate effectively and liaise cross-functionally with all key internal teams

· Visit stores, suppliers, warehouse and other offices to increase awareness and achieve objectives

The Successful Applicant

Person Specification

Knowledge, training & qualifications

Ideally educated to degree level and preferably within a retail or mathematics based subject

Able to demonstrate a high degree of numeracy and computer literacy

Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel

Understands and demonstrates knowledge of OTB or WSSI forecasting and automatic replenishment methodology


Proven track record and experience at assistant merchandiser level based in a retail head office role

Ideally candidate will have previous people management experience

Some time spent working in shops and E-Commerce is desirableSkills & attributes

Highly numerate, accurate and able to interpret analysis commercially

A passion for retail, particularly charity retail is essential with an innate understanding of BHF values

A skilled communicator with strong influencing skills and able to back opinions with the relevant facts

Be able to build and maintain strong working relationships in a multi-functional, geographically diverse organisation

Able to manage a high number of tasks and ascertain priorities to achieve competing deadlines whilst always retaining a focus on profitability

Able to manage, motivate and develop their team

Innovative, resilient and always looking for improvement on existing practices
