About Our Client

My client, based in Berkshire, is an international, leading personal care business who are looking to add a National Account Controller to their team. The business itself owns and manufactures a number of market leading, highly recognisable brands and are aiming to further grow and develop the UK retail distribution channels and expand their brand and product offering.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced, senior and ambitious candidate, with a results-orientated, growth mind-set, to join this exciting business. Working together with the Country General Manager and the incumbent sales team, you will lead and drive the UK sales offering (leading the UK Sales Team also) in all channels, with a focus on key National Accounts, with scope to progress to a more senior sales role in the future.

Job Description

The National Account Controller - Personal Care:

  • Combine the direct account management of the leading national accounts, pharmacy and concession (agency management), alongside managing the UK sales team.
  • Build and cultivate talent to build a fully effective and efficient sales team.
  • Motivate, lead, coach and mentor the sales team, so that the team can develop and grow as the business expands.
  • Develop, execute and sign off on customer business plans, including growth and profitability KPIs
  • Responsible for all sales (retail & e-tail) activities and growth of the business in the UK
  • Responsibility for UK (retail) net sales and gross margin
  • Development of the commercial and sales strategy, along with the successful communication and delivery of the strategy, both internally and with key partners externally
  • Managing senior relationships with direct retail & team retail accounts, ensuring that joint strategies and JBPs are created and aligned.
  • Guide, monitor and evaluate emerging business opportunities balancing the sales opportunity with branding, financial and operational feasibility. P&L end-to-end. Directly responsible for driving business competitive growth and profitability
  • Lead & execute annual planning, trade marketing budget & negotiations
  • Manage pricing strategy for all accounts and implement price increases as required.
  • Own S&OP process and coordination of full cross functional support team - ensure forecasting KPIs are met and exceeded.
  • Responsible for defining the sales strategy - ensuring KPIs are met throughout the grocery and high street retailers
  • Responsible for coordinating, reporting and analysing EPOS data and using to drive profitable growth sales strategies
  • Champion evolution of sales system improvements geared to driving future growth.

The Successful Applicant

The Successful National Account Controller - Personal Care:

  • Proven track record within a (senior) national account manager / controller role
  • Proven track record working within beauty / personal care / FMCG / Food industry
  • Experience working with Boots and ideally Superdrug
  • Experience working with the top 4 grocers is desirable
  • Some experience managing a direct report(s)
  • Challenger mindset and experience to challenge the status quo
  • Demonstrable existing and relevant relationships with key retailers in the UK
  • Functional and technical knowledge including Customer P&L (financial acumen)
  • Strong organisation and team management skills
  • Proven track record of delivery of business results
  • Experience leading a cross functional team
  • Proven track record of strong leadership and strategic influencing skills towards multifunctional stakeholders
  • Superb communication and sales & negotiation skills
  • Problem solving skills and crisis management skills
  • The role will require both a hands on/task mentality, alongside delegation, coaching and team development as well as excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to translate tangible strategic objectives into tangible results
  • Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills. Ability to track, deliver, analyse, evaluate and deliver against objectives.
  • Hands on, forward thinking, ability to take quantified risks with a growth mindset
  • Self starter mentality, ability to challenge the status quo with commitment to take total ownership.

  • £60,000 - £65,000 per annum base salary (possible increase for someone excellent)
