About Our Client
Well establish Manufacturing organisation with sites based in Newport and towards London.
Key Responsibilities for the Product manager are:
- Product expertise. Intimate knowledge of allocated products and associated partner companies, to ensuring you can speak with authority about them, and provide technical or sales support where necessary. This covers technical information (construction/materials), standards conformance, vocabulary, materials, colour options, pricing, margins, competitive products, market statistics etc.
- Product strategy. Developing an ongoing strategy for your portfolio that highlights areas of commercial opportunity and ensures long-term growth and maximum return on investment.
- New product development. Identifying gaps in your portfolio, developing a business case for filling them with new products, and managing the development and introduction of those products, including vocabulary definition and commercialisation. Ensure that Companies has first pick of new products/services from partner companies.
- Contract adherence. Working with the Business Strategy and Product Development team and Company Secretary to agree, implement and terminate 3rd party agreements and alliances across the Group. During the contract timeframe, report to the Board on progress against KPIS including volume commitments and other commercial deliverables. Ensure that product/distribution agreements are extended, renegotiated or terminated in a timely fashion.
- Communications. Work with Group Marketing team and appropriate Profit Centre Managers to define requirements for your portfolio. Leverage Partner Company assets and communications ensuring all necessary permissions are in place and support plans agreed.
- Training. Provide the relevant product training and materials to ensure the product competence of Companies and dealer personnel to sell against the competition. Works with the Business Development team, Companies Commercial Directors and Partner Companies to develop and implement training programmes.
- Competition. Detailed knowledge of competitive products for benchmarking exercises and to help you develop sales arguments against the competition, both in terms of the products and their price/value relationships.
- Product forecast. Produces 1 and 3 year product forecasts, incorporating planned developments, product life cycle, market trends etc. Monitors performance against plan and accounts for any variance.
- Maintenance activities. Responsible for day-to-day ad hoc advising on quality issues (eg acceptability to the market of out-of-standard product issues, proposed cost savings, etc).
The Successful Applicant
The successful Product Manager will:
An experienced Product Manager with minimum 1-2 years demonstrable success in product management with the desire to build a career in an innovative and high performing business overseeing a brand held in high esteem by the furniture industry. Experience in furniture or durables preferred.
Education and experience
Degree or equivalent qualification in any relevant discipline.
At least one to two years experience in Product Management.
Demonstrable project management experience.
Experience relating to the office furniture industry.
Preference for product development rather than marketing.
Background in B2B and B2C.
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to work within multi-disciplinary teams of people on development, cost-saving and product maintenance projects.
Highly competent with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and PowerPoint.
Able to manage multiple projects and prioritise.
Able to write English clearly and concisely.
Able to articulate own thoughts clearly and persuade others.
Able to lead decision making meetings without the formal structural authority.
Able to contribute to strategic direction/development.
Able to complete regular tactical tasks with accuracy and timeliness.
Be flexible over working hours and be prepared to travel occasionally.
Thinks logically and conceptually.
Has confidence and 'presence' to command attention and respect outside own department.
Willing to accept challenges, make decisions and take responsibility for results.
Has patience and persistence to work through temporary set-backs or rejection.
