Job Description

The Project Accountant will have the following duties;

  • Assisting Project Managers with the overall project accounting from the start to the finish of the project, and taking ownership of the financial systems required for this
  • Producing monthly profit and loss reports for projects and assisting Project Managers with the production of monthly project variances of actuals v budgets and forecasts
  • Help improve the measurement of projects profitability at the tender/feasibility stage and ensure project management fees and recovery of ASR costs has been maximised
  • Assisting with the preparation of quarterly P&L and Capex forecasts and cashflow projections
  • Assist with the preparation of business cases for board approval for major project and capital spend
  • Help to educate and encourage all staff to take more responsibility over the financial aspects of the projects that they are doing and the overhead costs that they are incurring
  • Establish key policy documentation and be the key point of contact for Project Managers on what can and cannot be capitalised
  • Offering professional judgement on projects financial matters and advising on ways of improving business performance
  • Work with the Financial Controller and Senior Business Partner to identify a work plan each year that would seek to cover a balance of business scorecard metrics on key strategic matters. This programme of work will be strategic, deliver commercial efficiency and will include cross-functional change projects. The outputs will be presented back to the Director team, as a key client of this work.
  • To assist the Finance Controller with any ad hoc requests

The Successful Applicant

The Project Accountant will likely have the following profile;


  • Qualified Accountant ICAS/ACCA/CIMA qualified
  • Good knowledge of IFRS
  • Able to take a strategic and commercial view and create solutions that are congruent with the company strategy
  • Experience of working in a similar role in a similar type of industry
  • Excellent communicator at all levels, both written and verbal
  • IT literate with high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Able to work independently and as part of a core team


  • Good systems experience; Open Accounts and Cognos is preferable
