About Our Client

My client is a market leader in Med Comms focusing on a variety of different areas ensuring consistent and compliant Medical Communication.

Job Description

  • To ensure that quality control is paramount within all materials produced across the business
  • Materials include: abstracts; posters; manuscripts; PowerPoint presentations; training programmes; meeting materials; newsletters; proposals; websites
  • Editorial support includes, but is not limited to: proofreading; copyediting; document formatting; ensuring style guides (internal and external) are maintained or adhered to; retemplating; ensuring copyright restrictions have been adhered to and necessary permissions have been sought
  • To coordinate effectively and efficiently with appropriate members of the wider team (scientific, editorial and creative / digital) on a range of projects
  • To work closely with Editorial Co-ordinators and the Director of Editorial Services to manage workflow and project allocation
  • To develop and maintain an understanding of the various client brands and disease areas
  • To create and maintain comprehensive style guides for all assigned accounts and keep them up to date
  • To keep abreast of all relevant industry guidelines including publication industry guidelines (e.g. Good Publication Practice)

The Successful Applicant

The successful Senior Editor:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (MSc or higher is preferred)
  • Aptitude for the English language and excellent written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the confidence to liaise and build relationships with all internal teams
  • At least 5 years' editorial experience gained from working in a medical communications / medical education agency (or related field)
  • Demonstrated editorial skills across a range of core tasks including: top-line proofing / quality control checks (assessing sense, consistency, spelling and grammar), editing (thorough structural review and assessment of clarity), proofing of artwork (checking layout, design, consistency of colours versus original copy)
  • Strong project management and organisational skills, with a proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and changing deadlines
  • Line management/mentoring/training of junior editorial team members (as appropriate)
  • Knowledge of relevant industry guidelines, including publication industry guidelines such as Good Publication Practice (e.g. CONSORT, PRISMA)
  • Awareness of the principles and requirements of the ABPI code of compliance
  • Knowledge of reference management software (e.g. EndNote)
  • Experience in instructional design including knowledge of Articulate Storyline/Rise would be beneficial
