Job Description

  • Ensure that all of the group's trading activity is captured accurately and accounted for through an appropriate group structure
  • Support the Tax Manager with preparation of the annual corporation tax returns for the group
  • Ensure that the corporation tax returns for the group are accurate and submitted in line with external requirements
  • Complete Corporation tax analysis in a timely manner to ensure gift aid donations are paid as required to remove the need for liabilities to HMRC
  • Complete the tax accounting, including deferred tax, for each of the subsidiary companies and the main company to the Tax Manager for inclusion in the annual statutory accounts.
  • This should be completed to include gift aid donations where appropriate and use of any group loss reliefs
  • Ensure all filing requirements are identified and all information captured
  • Ensure filings, along with notifications to file, are completed in a timely manner
  • Submit any withholding tax documentation to tax authorities as and when required
  • Review and coordinate with advisors for the preparation of any foreign corporation tax returns
  • Monitor activities internationally to identify any permanent establishments and work with our advisors to ensure we are in compliance
  • Liaise with our tax advisors in China to ensure compliance of all returns along with the transfer of funds for payments relating to tax and other deductions
  • As operations expand overseas, design and recommend solutions for ensuring the organisation maintains compliance with all local tax registrations and filings
  • Conduct risk assessments of current processes to identify areas of weakness and make recommendations as to where controls should be enhanced to improve operational efficiency and ensure compliance
  • Provide specialist tax advice on the implications of setting up operations in a foreign country to inform and support decision making
  • Provide input on tax costs for business case modelling of overseas operations
  • Responsible for on-going review of activities overseas ensuring the group remains compliant with local laws
  • Review and update the inter company agreements to ensure the correct transfer pricing arrangements are in place.
  • Liaise with the tax advisor as and when amendments are required to the current policy
  • Advise where new companies are set up as to the appropriate transfer pricing policy arrangements required.
  • Main point of contact for providing specialist advice in relation to direct tax queries from the organisation
  • Devise, design and document appropriate processes for new tax reliefs which give rise to potential benefits for the University
  • Liaise with tax advisor to ensure we are aware of all new tax reliefs in a timely manner to allow submission
  • Ad hoc analysis work that is required in association with direct taxes



The Successful Applicant

Essential

  • Professionally qualified (CTA or similar)
  • Specialist and thorough knowledge of Direct tax
  • Ability to identify control weaknesses and recommend and implement solutions to resolve these areas.
  • Ability to apply intellectual rigour and analytical insight to support qualitative decision-making
  • Highly effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to challenge assumptions and practices with diplomacy.
  • An ability to demystify complex financial concepts for non-financial colleagues
  • Resilient and able to effectively deal with ambiguity and able to maintain momentum in the face of obstacles/setbacks.
  • Ability to prioritise workload to deliver to tight deadlines and manage competing demands from various stakeholders.
  • Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft packages such as Excel, Word, Access, Powerpoint; and accounting software packages.

Experience

Essential:

  • Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different specialist roles
  • Experience of providing high quality advice and guidance on direct tax matters
  • Experience of international tax matters
