About Our Client

Kilwaughter Minerals Limited (Kilwaughter) is a privately held business established in 1939 with headquarters on a 100 acre site at Kilwaughter, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Today the business consists of three segments, each with their own products and sales structures: K Rend (Wet and Dry powder render, K Systems (External Wall Insulation) and Kilwaughter Lime Minerals for various applications.

Due to continued investment an excellent opportunity has arisen for a Technical Director within K Systems External Wall Insulation.

K Systems as a brand was launched in 2019, to serve the UK and Ireland External Wall Insulation (EWI) market and has sites in St Helens, Glasgow and County Antrim. The related designed solutions, known as Systems, are sold direct and predominantly to contractors or applicators. The market engages based on performance specifications that include thermal qualities, regulatory compliance performance especially fire risk and their solutions typically have 10 year plus guarantees. Target properties vary and include commercial and residential, low rise, high rise, new build and refurbishment. The government has recently made significant funds available to address a considerable volume of high rise properties that have some historic fire risk and these funds are impacting this market in the near term and is a growth opportunity for K Systems.

The Technical Director role for K-Systems seeks to further strengthen the leadership team and continue with their journey of high performance, exceptional customer service which leads to their continued business growth.

Job Description

As the most senior technical person, you will be responsible for governance, system design and new system development. You will represent the business with specifiers, installers, trade bodies and be at the forefront of ensuring the K Systems brand becomes the EWI system of choice, through exceptional technical service, innovative design and efficient and effective service and solutions. A critical member of the management team you will work closely with your local team in St. Helens and Glasgow and the Management Board in Head Office, County Antrim to develop K Systems EWI into a market leading brand of choice.

Key Responsibilities:

· Provide leadership and develop a high performing team with a focus on people development and continuous improvement

· Manage the CAD and BIM library. Oversee project quotations, drawings, specifications, calculations, warranties and provide analysis on U-values and interstitial condensation.

· Write and deliver approved CPDs and training programmes for internal and external audiences

· Work with stakeholders to provide a leading service across the technical function ensuring projects are won based on value add, through high calibre expertise, service levels and high-quality systems

· Where valuable, represent the company on industry bodies to influence requirements and trends

· Work with test houses for system certifications and approvals

· Lead the implementation of system design, technology improvements and development of new solutions, working closely with R&D

· Knowledge expert on current/future regulations ensuring Systems are safe, compliant, competitive

The Successful Applicant

· Strong customer focus with natural ability to engage and present to customers as the senior technical lead for this segment

· Exceptional knowledge and expertise for EWI systems, including governance of the High-Risk process together with execution and policing of adherence

· Thorough knowledge of up to date and emerging fire and building regulations

· Qualified to degree level in relevant technical discipline (Architecture, Engineering, acoustics, building construction

· Experienced in a construction technical design environment, operating at a minimum of middle management level with experience of leading and implementing change initiatives

· Experience using technical desk software to produce technical drawings, quotations and specifications

· Experience in working across a cross section of architects, contractors and sub-contractors

· Experience in working with test houses and accreditation bodies

· Deep knowledge and understanding of building regulations

· Full understanding of a specification led process with experience in modern construction methods and a knowledge of architectural detailing
